I got a new laptop a few days ago and I’ve been re-installing all my dev tools and servers on it. Tonight I installed Virtual Server 2005 RC2 and couldn’t get it to detect the wireless network card (NIC). It detected the wired NIC but not the wireless. I couldn’t get Virtual PC 2005 to detect it either.
Turns out that “Virtual Machine Network Services” wasn’t selected for the wireless network card. (Funny, I’ve never had to do anything with that before.)
Go into Network Connects, right-click the offending network connection and verify that “Virtual Machine Network Services” is selected. Click OK.
When you go to the Virtual Server 2005 Administrator and select Add Network, you should now see the NIC in the “Network adapter on physical computer” drop down list.
